City designated protected site
Climbing up the cliff of couple rock on the beautiful emerald green sea.
There is a Kannon Bosatsu Statue covered with gold leaf protecting local fishermen’s safety.
Site information
Okinoshima island and Chinoshima island, composed by basalt, located in front of Pear Tateishi is one of the biggest natural rock site in Japan. Okinoshima is about 40m Hight, Chinoshima is about 20m Hight.

You can climb up the Chinoshima. Thre are several jizo guardian statues. When you get top of the Chinoshima, you may able to pray for Kannnon Bosatsu Statue covered with gold leaf.
Where the Tateishi Kannon come from
In the past, when the giant Tsunami hits pear, Chinoshima took a roll of huge breakwater. From then, these islands are believed to be fisherman’s god saves their fishing.
